Action  #3 - The Slime Action.

And now for something completely useless.  It's our third action called, The Slime Action.  This is what happens to you when your daughter watches Nickelodeon for fourteen hours a day.  Actually, be sure to step through this one and examine the individual steps.  There are some cool techniques here for creating airbrush like highlights and shadows.  This one, like the Blood Action, also uses the Plastic Wrap Filter.  Yes, there actually is a use for this thing, other then making pictures of your grandmother look like they were wrapped with Saran Wrap to stay fresh in your lunch box.  Anyway, let's get started.

Shown right is the final output of the slime action.  The final slime creation will be on it's own layer, so you can drag in onto any background you wish.

As with our other actions, this is designed to work on a 72dpi , RGB file, white background with black text.  You will have to reproduce this effect on your own to create a high resolution print version.  Also, this one is only guaranteed to work in PhotoShop 5.5.

The first thing you need to do, is download the slime action here and load it into your PhotoShop Actions Palette.  Consult your manual for help on loading actions.  Next create an 8x5 inch, RGB file with a white background.  Add your text in black, giving yourself enough room on all sides for a bit of growth, and flatten your image.  I used a font called Chiller at 400 points, tracking -75 and crisp anti-aliasing.  Right, is the reduced original with a border to show you the distance on all four sides.  Next, select Slime Action in the Actions Palette and click play.

For an added effect, try adding some drips and drops to your text before running the Slime Action.   Make sure you use large enough text.  Otherwise, your words will just become an unrecognizable pile of slooge.

After

Be sure to experiment a bit with different fonts, sizes, tracking, etc.  Try it on different shapes, blobs and random patterns.   And be sure to study the action to find out what makes it work.

Email Us with any incarnations you may come up with on your own.  Also, take a minute to sign our guest book and let us know what you think of these. Have Fun!!
